If nothing is recording the click, nothing can optimise it
How to tell if tracking tags are missing
Tracking tags are small pieces of code that record a visit or a sale. Without them, Google Ads and Meta cannot tell which clicks turned into customers. You keep paying for traffic, and the platforms keep guessing.
Funnel Mage looks for an analytics tag, a Google Ads conversion tag, and a Meta pixel in the page HTML, on every report. If none of them are there, that is a finding: impact high, effort low, usually a quick win. You do not need the tags in place before you order. Their absence is the point.
What “missing” actually means
We read the HTML of the live page. We are not logging into GA4 or Ads. If a tag is loaded only after a cookie banner, or only on a thank-you page we were not sent to, we will not pretend we saw it. The sample report for Larkstone Physiotherapy found zero analytics or conversion tags on the landing page and put “install them” second on the fix list.
A tag manager (Google Tag Manager and the like) counts if it is actually on the page. A tag that exists in someone’s dashboard but was never published does not.
What to do if they are missing
Install Google Analytics 4 and the conversion tag for the ad platform you are paying. If you use Meta ads, the pixel too. Then confirm, in the page source or with the platform’s own tag helper, that they fire on the URL your ads land on, not only on the homepage.
That still will not tell you why people bounce. For that you need the page, the message, and the speed. Tracking just makes the rest measurable.
